Recipe: Carrot-Ginger Soup
by Shannon Turner
January 21, 2011
Lately I've had the wisdom-tooth blues, so I've been eating a lot of soft, easy
to chew foods. Soups are my favorite foods to go to because they can
really run the gamut depending on what you're looking for in the moment.
Soups can be hearty or brothy, packed with lots of goodies or simple and easy to
put together. Best of all, they're easy to make and don't take a lot of
time or effort to put together.

Our addiction to meat, dairy, and eggs is the single largest contributor to
global climate change. Not our addiction to oil, though that's another
problem to overcome. Reversing the damage we've done to the air we
breathe, the water we drink, and our planet's climate will take a comprehensive
shift in our behaviors.

Continuing from the last article discussing why I went vegan (there are dozens of reasons), this week I briefly discuss the local food movement and how it benefits the environment. While this article isn't explicitly about eating vegan, it is in a sense. After all, to eat vegan, you need to make informed choices about your diet daily - something we all should be doing.

Featured Article: Why Go Vegan? (A VERY short primer)
by Shannon Turner
October 22, 2010
I've been vegan for several years now, and the most frequently asked
question I hear is: Why? Everyone I meet is curious to know why I
choose not to eat animals (vegetarian) and why I don't eat or use
what comes from animals, like milk, eggs, or leather (vegan). Being
vegetarian and vegan doesn't involve absolute boundaries; there are many
variations of each type and plenty of room for difference. For
example, there are vegetarians who will eat fish (commonly referred
to as pescetarians), and some vegans who will eat honey or wear
leather. Each vegetarian/vegan makes their own choices on what they
will consume, and those choices are usually informed by the reasons
that person went vegan in the first place. Personally, there are
dozens of reasons I chose to become vegan - and they're not always
the same as other vegans I meet! [Full Article]
